Floating Drones and Templars, Cheating or strategy? As some of you may have learned or seen, floating drones is an easy way to make a fast economy on islands unreachable early in the game. But for those who don't know, it's also cheating.
Blizzard declared floating drones exploiting a glitch. Some of the battle.net moderators began checking and banning users for those abusing the glitch for an advantage. The error that blizzard made drones, templars, and other units fly over land, water, and almost any other spot just with a drone and a extractor.
Here's how it was done:To float a drone you need at least 50 minerals and at the most 99 minerals. Number a drone by pressing on CTRL+(NUMBER) and a larve by pressing CTRL+(OTHER NUMBER). Make the drone build an extractor and while it is going to the extractor,press shift and tell it to go somewhere, I suggest using the mini-map. When it's just about to build the extractor, tell the hatchery to make the larve a drone. It will use up the minerals, and send your drone flying through anything and everything on it's way to where it was assigned.
Now patched in the upgrade, the cheating has ended with the floating. Althought drone floating is possible in 1.10, I don't advise it, and will not work if you do what was stated above.
The glitch was once actually created into a UMS(Used Map Settings) game. Along with cloaking zerglings, drones, and buildings. The simple mini-game was rarely played and only made beginning users frustrated at their attempt and failure.
Drone floating was eventually abused in user vs user games on battle.net and was soon noticed by Battle.Net moderators. Many players complained of the misuse and error and Blizzard came to patch it.
